Completing a half-marathon through California’s wine country was the ultimate “runner’s high” for salon professional Amy Ringler.
Ringler, manager of The Midas Touch Golden Tans in Emporia, KS, took part in a 13.1-mile half-marathon on July 20 from Napa to Sonoma, CA. As might be expected, participants enjoyed water – as well as Guinness beer, locally-produced wine and music from local bands – as they made their way through the long, winding course. A festival at the finish line featured 26 local wineries and two area breweries positioned throughout Sonoma Square.
Amy was elated as she crossed the finish line underneath a gigantic American flag to the cheers of hundreds of spectators. “I’ve been running marathons and half-marathons for years,” she said, “and I have always heard about these runs. A running buddy of mine invited me to join her this year and I couldn’t pass up this opportunity.” Amy jokingly calls her trip a “fit-cation” because it provided her an opportunity to kick back and enjoy time away from the tanning salon while still maintaining the active lifestyle that’s so important to her.
A friend of Amy’s once told her that “every run is a story that your feet get to tell.” Over the years, Amy’s feet have taken her to many beautiful places and some challenging terrains; but her recent run through California’s vineyards, she says, was her all-time favorite. “It was such a beautiful course, and the party at the finish line was like nothing I’ve ever experienced!” she exclaimed. “Plus, winning race medals are neat, but this was my first finisher’s wine glass.”
Founded in 2002 by Amy’s father, Darrell Ringler, Midas Touch Golden Tans offers four levels of tanning, with 15 UV units and a sunless booth, and employs 13 people. ■
