INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Popular tanning lotion brand, Designer Skin, was recently featured on the cover Packaging Digest, recognizing their innovative use of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags in their product packaging. This state-of-the-art technology helps fight product diversion, a wide-spread problem in the tanning industry.
“Diversion hurts brand identity, erodes distributor loyalty and ultimately puts the end consumer at risk,” commented Designer Skin Brand Manager, Emily Golay. “In the past, RFID has been used by the U.S. Government to track military supplies, and it’s now making its way into commerce.”
Last fall, Designer Skin turned to RFID as a way to fight diversion and will continue to use the technology on future products. The tag is discretely placed underneath cutting-edge packaging designs. “That way, if someone wants to remove the tag, they would destroy the packaging, making the product unsellable,” explained Golay. “Designer Skin is committed to fighting diversion and supporting the tanning industry.”
