This month, Devoted Creations’ Five Star Diamond Spotlight shines on Destination Tan AZ, located in Tucson. I interviewed Owner, Danyelle Nichols, to get her thoughts on the business and she shared some of her experiences on the road to success.

IST: When did you open Destination Tan AZ and what was your motivation to do so?
[gap height=”15″]
Danyelle: I opened my salon March 1st, 2014. I started working in the tanning industry part-time when I was 16 years old and immediately fell in love with the business. I worked at a salon part-time for more than ten years (even though I had a full-time career), because I enjoyed educating the customers on the tanning process and helping them achieve their goals.

Then, in October of 2013 the salon closed, and I was heartbroken. Since there weren’t many salons in the area and I knew there was solid demand for the service, I decided it was time to open my own business.

IST: What do your customers like the most about your business?

Danyelle: It starts with a spotlessly clean salon and warm, friendly atmosphere. My staff is professional, knowledgeable and well-educated. We know each customer on a first-name basis and personally greet them when they check in.

Destination Tan AZ is also dog-friendly. Our mascot, Ela, is a fixture in the lobby area – she welcomes our guests and provides pet therapy!

IST: What do you enjoy the most about the business?

Danyelle: Building lasting relationships with our many customers is what I enjoy the most. Educating them on our products, equipment and services and then helping them to achieve their goals is so rewarding. It makes it a pleasure to go to work every day!

IST: What are some of your best-selling lotions – and what do your tanners like most about them?

Danyelle: Let’s start with Devoted Creations Yes Way Rose. Customers love the enticing fragrance, while the superior quality ingredients and unique formulation deliver the highest levels of moisture. They also love DC Glow – the fresh, clean fragrance and the way it conditions the skin and accelerates the tanning process.

IST: How many levels of tanning do you offer and what are your best-selling packages?

Danyelle: We offer five levels of UV tanning. Our monthly EFT memberships are top-sellers.

IST: What are some of your most successful sales promotions?

Danyelle: One of my favorite and most successful promotions is our Bundle Pack of Samples. This includes a variety of five different lotions for $40. We also offer Buy-a-Session-Get-a-Session-Free promos that are very popular.

IST: What are your plans for the future?

Danyelle: We have just started offering mobile airbrush tans, and I hope to open another salon within the next couple of years. We also plan to expand our current business with spa and wellness products and systems.
