Well, it’s official.
Peak season is here for the tanning industry. This is the season when virtually every single salon owner, product distributor and marketer is going into full swing. If you’re like me, you may have entire days that consist of little more than sleep and work. Despite all the chaos that ensues, the truth is that there is a deep sense of reward that comes with a full day’s work.
I don’t need to explain all the perks of having a business in high demand. You can feel it in your wallet, in the joy of your employee’s faces when they see their bonuses, and the excitement of your clients as they finally get to enjoy their amenities. Success can be addictive, just like taking pride in a good day of work.
However, there needs to be a line drawn in the sand.
While it’s great to put your effort into your business, there’s a certain point where overworking yourself becomes destructive. If you notice yourself skipping meals, skipping self-care routines (such as the gym or a meditation session), or missing out on major events related to your family, now is the time to put your foot down.
Even the most successful people need to take time out of their days to care for themselves and their loved ones. This is especially true when you and your staff are working at peak efficiency. Contrary to popular belief, that’s precisely when you should be focusing on yourself the most.
After all, how can you expect to run like a well-oiled machine if you don’t give yourself time for an oil change? You can’t.
From business owner to business owner, I encourage you to discuss the need for self-care with every single person on your team. You can’t allow your team to run itself ragged just to make the books look good. If you notice signs of burnout in your employees, it may be time to hire temporary seasonal help so that your team member can relax.
Peak tanning season is never easy to deal with. There’s always craziness, demanding clients, and hiccups in the process. However, keeping yourself sane and grounded is the first step to surviving and thriving when action kicks up a notch.
Take a deep breath and remember: you’ve got this.
Yours,
Onyi
