NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Partnering with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Body & Sol Tanning Boutique raised nearly $6,300 during the hospital’s 21st annual “Pin Up a Pumpkin for St. Jude” Halloween promotion.
In October, thousands of retail businesses across the nation encouraged patrons to donate $1 to the cause, with all proceeds benefitting the children of St. Jude. Those who gave received a paper pumpkin “pin-up” featuring a picture of a St. Jude patient sporting an adorable Halloween costume, and were able to personalize it. Body & Sol Tanning displayed their client’s pin-ups in each of their eight locations across Hampton Roads and Middle Peninsula, VA, often encouraging clients to donate more than $1. The salons offered $10 in store credit to those who donated $5 or more to the cause.
Body & Sol Tanning Boutique is a locally-owned salon chain offering five levels of UV tanning, Mystic HD spray-tanning, and teeth-whitening. The company prides itself on being committed to giving back to its communities through donations to charitable organizations, and the volunteer work of their Promotions Team.
Owner/CEO Kristin Barfknecht is deeply involved in the communities of Yorktown and Newport News and St. Jude holds a special place in her heart. “We want the communities of each of our locations to know how much we love giving back,” she said. “From our Promo Team volunteering with non-profit organizations like ‘Beyond Boobs’, to raising money at our ‘Sprays for Strays’ event for the Peninsula SPCA and the Heritage Humane Society, to filling up boxes during “Tan for a Can” for the Virginia Peninsula Food Bank. It means a lot to us that our community sees us as more than just a tanning salon.”
