Wellness, health and beauty have become synonymous terms for the expanding wellness industry. In other words, when we promote one service, we promote them all. That’s because we are in the industry of making people look and feel better! And, being in that industry, it’s important to be knowledgeable on one of the most effective forms of wellness, hyperthermic conditioning.
[gap height=”15″]
Hyperthermic conditioning involves the use of heat to improve health and performance. The idea is to acclimate your body to heat while at rest. This process triggers adaptations in the body that improve performance and health capacities. Many different methods can be used to experience the wellness benefits of hyperthermic conditioning. Below are just a few examples of how this can used within your business.

Infrared Heat (IR)
[gap height=”15″]
The most popular form of heat acclimation, infrared heat is a radiant heat similar to what you experience from the sun. It is known for having three separate sources of heat known as near (NIR), mid (MIR), and far (FIR) infrared heat. Since infrared is transmitted through wavelengths, hot heat doesn’t need to be felt in order to experience benefits. Deeply-penetrating, it heats the body from the inside out.

Method: Infrared Saunas and Infrared Sauna Pods
[gap height=”15″]
Session: 15-60 minutes; always start at shorter times and work up to longer sessions. Most people comfortably prefer 15-30 minutes.
[gap height=”15″]
Target Temp Range: 110-150℉; infrared starts working immediately regardless of temperature, but to experience hyperthermic conditioning benefits, higher temperatures should be used.

Convection Heat
[gap height=”15″]
This method of transferring heat through air or water provides a superficial, surface heating of the body – from the outside-in – and is beneficial for immediate comfort. Convection heat is one of the more universal forms of wellness heat used today. (Sauna Pods combine infrared heat with convection heat for optimal hyperthermic conditioning benefits.)

Method: Sauna Pods, Traditional Saunas, Whirlpool, Moist Air Baths, Hot Air Baths, Fluid Therapy

Session: Varies depending on the medium (air or water) and source.

Hyperthermic conditioning can be achieved with a variety of methods
and can easily be incorporated into any wellness business plan.

Steam
[gap height=”15″]
Hyperthermic conditioning through steam is done via lower temperatures than an infrared sauna. So, even though you sweat more in a steam room, you aren’t getting as much heat. This is due to the fact that when there is already humidity in the air, sweat evaporates at a much slower rate and heat isn’t carried away as fast as it is in lower humidity. Still, there are many wellness benefits to using a steam room for hyperthermic conditioning.

Method: Steam Saunas (Traditional saunas) Steam rooms, Wet Pods

Session: 20 minutes maximum

Target Temp Range: 110-115℉/100% humidity level

Hot Tub Immersion
[gap height=”15″]
Although hot tub immersion is beneficial for hyperthermic conditioning, it isn’t necessarily the most effective. According to Dr. Rhonda Patrick, a well-known scientist who has been researching hyperthermic conditioning and longevity, “I think hot tub may result in some benefits of hyperthermic conditioning, but the effects will not be nearly as robust.” This may be because you should not sit in hot tubs for long periods of time and the overall temperature is much lower than an infrared sauna.

Method: Hot Tubs, Jacuzzi, Whirlpools, Therapy Pools and Baths
[gap height=”15″]
Session: 15-30 minutes, never to exceed 45 minutes
[gap height=”15″]
Target Temp Range: 100-104℉, never to exceed 104℉
[gap height=”15″]
Overall, hyperthermic conditioning can be achieved with a variety of methods and can easily be incorporated into any wellness business plan. While one method might not fit into your business plan, another wellness method may. Knowing the benefits of hyperthermic conditioning and how to use it effectively will provide lifelong results for health, wellness and longevity.
