It’s a month into 2019 and statistically, most people have already broken their New Year’s resolutions. In fact, 80% fail by February. And, if you are like most people who made a resolution, it was most likely to get healthy and lose weight. Even with resolutions failing, there are two diets that, when combined with high heat, have been proven successful: the Paleo and Ketogenic diets.

The Paleo diet derives from a fairly simple concept. Basically, it’s a dietary plan that is similar to what humans would have eaten in the Paleolithic era. (That’s 10,000 years ago!) It consists of lean meats, fish, fruits, vegetables and seeds – foods that were simple to obtain during this hunter/gatherer era. The idea is that modern farming has changed what people eat and that our bodies, over the years, have not adapted to these changes. Thus making “processed” foods harder for our bodies to digest.

The idea that using age-old methods for improved wellness and health isn’t a new one. And similar to prehistoric diets, high-heat through sauna use is also a method that has been used for thousands of years for improved wellness. In fact, a scientific theory called the “discordance hypothesis” supports such claims. The theory is based on the premise that our bodies were made to be more physically active and ingest less processed foods. (Think foods that weren’t available 10,000 years ago!) With this combination of exercise, diet and age-old traditional sauna use, it is believed that modern ailments would disappear.

Similar to the Paleo diet is the Ketogenic (Keto for short) diet, which emphasizes low-carbs and replacing carbohydrate-rich foods with high-fats. The idea behind the weight loss and wellness benefits for the Keto diet are slightly more complex. It forces your body to switch into what is known as ketosis – aka a “fat-burning mode.” Since the body is unable to burn sugars and starches (commonly found in carbohydrates), it is forced to burn the high-fat foods and extra fat storage in the body as fuel.

The Keto diet is another diet that we recommend combining with Cocoon Pod sauna sessions or infrared sauna cabin sessions. With your body in fat-burning ketosis state, infrared sauna helps boost the results.

Although fairly similar, the Keto and Paleo diets have several differences. Paleo focuses mainly on reducing the amount of processed foods you eat. For the most part, you eliminate dairy, grains and processed foods. Keto, on the other hand, focuses on eliminating carbs and eating high-fat foods. And remember, carbs can be found in fruits, vegetables and nuts. So, even though they are acceptable for the Paleo diet, they may not work for the Keto diet.

While both diets have proven to be successful, we recommend choosing what works best for your lifestyle and combining it with regular sauna sessions in an infrared Cocoon Pod or sauna cabin. In a business setting, sauna sessions could be added to any salon service menu and sold as a service to help boost wellness. As an added bonus, sauna sessions can be sold as a holistic approach to boosting weight-loss results.

When you see tangible results in the goals or resolutions you have made, you are more likely to stay committed to your course. Finding the right diet, combined with high-heat sauna sessions, is what we believe to be the ideal environment to achieve results. Incorporating Cocoon Pod sessions or regular infrared sauna cabin sessions into their weekly schedule is a great way to see the desired results – faster! For business owners in the wellness industry, this is an easy way to help your customers stay focused on what they truly want for 2019.
