Q: How and when did you get into the tanning industry?
A: I was project manager for an electrical contractor and just finished a project with Nissan in Canton, MS. After that very challenging and fast-paced job, I was looking for something closer to home. I had thought of the tanning industry as a short-term solution, and it has lasted longer than I ever imagined. The friendships, family and an amazing company have kept me a part of something that holds a very special place in my heart. I am very thankful for the opportunities the last 17+ years have provided.
Q: What was your first job?
A: My very first paying job was hauling hay at age 13. The bales were bigger than me! The work was hot, hard and tiring and there was no time to goof off – if you didn’t pull your weight, you didn’t last long. When I look back on those hard days, they were some of the most rewarding. My first official job was in an auto parts store during high school. I have a love for cars, so it was great.
Q: What is your favorite family vacation?
A: When my three grown children were young, we would take a trip to Gatlinburg (TN) to stay in the mountains. It was always such a joy to watch them enjoy life together. Spending time as a family living, loving and laughing is something you can’t always plan or coordinate. My wife PJ and I are blessed to have seen many other countries and amazing islands, but we agree that nothing compares to the vacations we had as a young family.
Q: What is your favorite game or sport to watch or play?
A: It’s always been football! When I was a child all the neighborhood guys would come to my house to play for hours in the front yard. We had some tough, physical games, built many friendships and learned how to win and lose with pride and integrity. I still enjoy watching a college game, but it’s not the same as experiencing it on the field.
Q: What is one of your biggest pet peeves?
A: I don’t understand the loss of communication between people. It’s so annoying to see people having dinner together and attempting to speak to one another with an electronic device in their hand. I believe we are truly missing out on relationships and the bond of communication. If someone is important enough to give you their time, you should honor that with your full attention.
Q: If you were a superhero, what special power would you have?
A: I would have the power to always know the truth – the absolute truth, not a variation or opinion or what is best for a certain group, just the truth.
Q: Necessities aside, what one thing could you not go a day without?
A: This may sound silly, but I would not want to go one day without love. We wake up to a world that is turning and moving, an action or reaction. Everything I do I want to do with love – it’s an action word that motivates and allows you to go places and achieve things others may only dream about. With love, all things are possible.
