Whether they’re working behind the counter at one location or behind the desk running many stores, managers are an important part of the salon sector. Each day, these dedicated individuals prove their worth where it counts, and many a salon owner has said that they couldn’t do what they do without their trusted manager. In this new monthly series, ist Magazine honors these hardworking and deserving tanning professionals…
This month, the Salon Manager Spotlight shines upon Angela DiGuardi, District Manager for the Sun Tan City salon chain in Rochester, NY. She was nominated by her boss, Rocco Viele, who was impressed with Angela’s leadership skills right from the beginning.
Being born the day, month and year that Rocco first opened his salon chain, it could be said that Angela was destined to be in the sun business. Eighteen years after that fateful day, she became a bed-cleaner at the salon chain. Rocco recalled, “She was fast and thorough, and always eager to learn. She watched and listened to my staff behind the counter and she picked up on everything rather quickly.”
Over time, Angela became a desk person, then assistant manager and eventually salon manager. Finally, when the day came for Rocco to replace the chain’s district manager, he knew that Angela was ready to step into that role. “She’s a great listener and a very believable manager because she’s always on her A-game,” he explained. “Her customers and the employees all respect her and look up to her because she’s kind, consistent and knowledgeable.”
With 32 years’ experience as a successful salon owner, Rocco is responsible for a large portion of his sun business success. Even so, he’s proud to admit that Angela essentially runs his salons these days and does a wonderful job. “Angela has my back,” he commented. “When it comes to hiring, managing and handling the day-to-day operations of my business, I definitely trust her judgment.”
“As a district manager, I have the ability to make a difference in someone’s confidence, both personally and professionally. I like to be called a leader and not a boss because people follow leaders. I have a great example of that in Rocco. He’s absolutely adored because of his generosity, kindness and willingness to incentivize his staff and reward their efforts.” -Angela DiGuardi
Anyone who knows Angela knows that she has a passion for the business of indoor tanning. Because of this, she will continue to be a leader in this industry as she leads her staff in its mission to help the people of Rochester be tan, beautiful and, above all, happy. Congratulations, Angela… you definitely deserve the praise!
