Spring is a season of renewal and because of that, it is an excellent time to bring in fresh ideas for your marketing campaigns – with a focus on spring and summer readiness.
As spring break is still happening for people in many areas, educating salon guests about the importance of base-tanning is still key for the month of April. You want to make sure your staff are informing tanners about starting their tanning schedule early and gradually building up session times, as well as the importance of using a lotion. Both seem simple to us; but to a new tanner, this may be a brand new world.
With so many new customers, it will be educational to highlight the variety of different products you sell. Since spring is all about new beginnings, promoting a new product line you are bringing in would be an enticing way to spice up sales. The focus for these products would be on the results they offer each type of tanner.
This season, many new customers will be trying to build a base tan. Focusing on the lotions that can be used for indoor/outdoor use will be beneficial, as they can be sold as a multipurpose product – they can use them in the salon and wherever they seek the sun!
A spring promo event would be the perfect way to kickstart the fresh season and invite customers into your business. It can be a “one day only” event tailored around new beginnings and new products. You can include special discounts, giveaways and even free samples with a purchase of specific products or services. The key to success will be to promote it across all social platforms and in person – “One Day Only Spring Savings Event!” This will in turn create buzz and anticipation among your current customers.

Spring cleaning is a universally known “refresh & reset” concept. A spring cleaning-inspired promo would be a great way to increase brand awareness for your business. Invite guests to bring in their old lotion bottle/bottles to recycle and receive 10% off a NEW bottle – a specific product of the month that you are promoting. Everyone loves to get rid of old stuff and get new stuff! This is also an easy sell that will get guests to try new products. Think of a cute and catchy phrase that people will remember and peak interest. Definitely enlist your whole team to participate and create ownership in the promotion. (#commissions!)
For March, DC offered Spring Essentials kits. These are good deals to promote throughout the salon and on social media! Spread the word by creating cute and enticing flyers with Canva (an online template editor app for creating social media graphics). You can make one tailored to indoor/outdoor products and one for sunless tanners, both including lotions and maintenance products for prolonging results. This is also an easy way to declutter your inventory.
A spring giveaway is also a great opportunity to reach a bigger audience and gain social media presence. For April, you can do something as simple as asking your guests to guess how many flowers are in a vase on your reception counter. The prize can be a free month of your best services – perfect for spring! When participating in a giveaway, your customers will be excited and engaged with your social channels by commenting on posts, checking for updates and sharing your page with friends. Promoting this through social media will build your presence and could generate more salon traffic throughout this most spring-y of seasons!
Spring brings special sales opportunities and it’s important that you have fun with whatever marketing campaigns you choose. With the right promotions, sales and savings, you can keep your guests engaged, excited and trending all season long.
