When you’re as busy as I am, it feels like everything is demanding your attention at all times. But if you want to conquer your daily schedule both in and out of the office, block scheduling is going to be your best friend, trust me.
What is Block Scheduling?
To put it simply, block scheduling is when you take everything that NEEDS to be done during the day and you allocate a time when all your focus is directed toward completing that one, specific task.
For example, if you need to make sales calls and talk to clients during the day, you schedule it from 1-3:30 pm. During that time, you ONLY make calls – no picking up your phone for a break or answering your emails. All you focus on is the task at hand until 3:31 pm.
I know what you’re thinking, “Grant, this sounds so obvious. Why is it even important?” The truth is that block scheduling is so obvious, people forget about it altogether.
During my day-to-day schedule, everything I do is coordinate through blocks of time. The long and short of it is that this scheduling strategy helps you do everything you’re prioritizing during the day while staying focused and determined, and also building energy and momentum for your next tasks.
Block Scheduling is about dominating every aspect of your life and not letting the little things like a crazy schedule get in the way of your success!
Does Block Scheduling
Actually Work?
A lot of people will say that they don’t have time to sit down and schedule, or that they work better as multitaskers. Let me ask you a question:
How can you truly be productive when you’re trying to put out a million fires at the same time?
If you keep trying to manage everything at the same time with no structure at all, you will never be truly efficient, or successful for that matter. But don’t just take it from me. A survey of over 1,000 workers reported that balancing your time and focusing on the tasks at hand actually does make you more productive.
Ultimately, you have to remember that block scheduling is not just about time management. It’s about dominating every aspect of your life and not letting the little things like a crazy schedule get in the way of your success.
