On Valentine’s Day, we shower our loved ones with things like greeting cards, candy and flowers. You also love your business, right? You have genuine affection for the endeavor that you’ve put your heart and soul into getting to where it is today – so, consider giving your salon some love this year too!

A great place to start is to treat your facility to a makeover. This doesn’t have to be terribly costly or time consuming. Something as simple as a deep cleaning will go a long way. Your reception counter is likely the first thing your guests see when they walk through your doors, so make sure that the entire area is clutter and dust free. Guests will especially appreciate a sparkling clean restroom, so extra attention to this area is of utmost importance.

And while you’re at it, don’t forget to give your beds and booths some love, too. You sanitize your tanning equipment after each customer use, but things like fans and filters can sometimes be overlooked, so be sure to give these a good cleaning. Some extra elbow grease while cleaning the spaces behind your beds will surely make a difference, as well.

Take a peek at your software system for the status of your top, bottom, facial and shoulder lamp life, in comparison to the expected life for each tanning system in your salon, to determine if any of them are due for a lamp change. You might want to consider reviewing the usage on your acrylics, as well, to determine if any should be replaced. And, if you want to give your salon some extra special love, look at replacing equipment with high usage hours!

It’s probably fair to assume that there are features available within your software program of which you’re not taking advantage. Perhaps, you haven’t yet incorporated a customer issues module, which would allow your staff to submit an issue for an item needing attention on a customer’s behalf, and automatically assign the ticket based on type to a specific employee or set of employees, for quick resolution. Or maybe, your tanners have been asking you to email them copies of their receipts, but you haven’t enabled that feature just yet. Now is an opportune time to implement new functionality that will make your operations more efficient, and enhance the guest experience.

Instead of gifting flowers to your salon this Valentine’s Day, think about incorporating some new peripherals. Do your tanners frown every time they have to pull out their driver’s license or key tag when they check in for a session? If so, add a biometrics device not only to verify your guest, but to search for them too, so that they don’t have to worry about carrying anything other than their lotion and eyewear.

Lastly, don’t forget to determine what Valentine’s Day promotions you will run this year, and to set them up ahead of time within your system. And, be sure to have ample gift cards available for purchase and make them extra sweet by personalizing them with your logo and a Valentine theme!
