The old adage says, “A picture is worth a thousand words” but, Dr. James McQuivey from Forrester Research says a one-minute video is worth the value of 1.8 MILLION words! None of us has the time to write 1.8 million words, but we do have the time and resources to make an impactful one-minute video. From a marketing perspective, there are few things more cost effective, practical and engaging than video.
This season, make video a big part of your content strategy and, as always, we would love to help you in any way we can.
Video is exploding across the Internet marketing world. Social media leads the way, allowing users to integrate short videos into their feeds. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram and Snapchat are full of short videos ranging from funny animal behavior to a game-winning home run. YouTube receives more than one billion unique visitors every month! There’s a reason why these social media giants are integrating video content … video works! Why does it work, and how should you integrate it into your marketing plan as we head into busy season?
1. Use video in social media feeds: Smartphones have the ability to capture outstanding videos. Don’t be afraid to take short snippets of your salon or salon staff and post them. Keep it simple and to-the-point so that it’s not too difficult, and make it fun. Have you ever realized while scrolling through your social media feeds that typically, you only stop to watch the short videos? Use video to gain viewer engagement.
2. Use video on your website: Most companies today are embracing visual content and there’s not a better place to post these than on your website. Use videos about the products you carry, the equipment you offer and your most recent package promotions. Videos are “sticky” – they will keep your potential customers hanging around on your website longer. ComScore reports that adding a video to your site can increase the change of a front-page Google result by as much as 53 times, and that 100 million Internet users watch online video each day!
3. Use video in your Email Marketing: Do you want your customers and potential customers to engage with your messaging? According to Forrester Research, adding video to an email drives 2 to 3 times more unique click-throughs. Include an introductory video in your email of the owner speaking about the salon and watch the engagement rates soar.
4. Use video in-salon selling your products and services: Over 90 percent of shoppers report that video is helpful in making shopping and buying decisions. Does your staff use videos to sell lotions? Statistics say that when they do, they’re more successful. Video can be helpful to the shy or not-so-eloquent employee and add to the professionalism of your establishment.
According to Cisco, video will account for 69 percent of all consumer Internet traffic by 2017. More and more, we will be reading fewer print articles – and watching everything.
