EMPORIA, KS – The recent free tan weekend at Midas Touch Golden Tans was a huge success, thanks to current and former staff, and the tan biz veterans who helped out.
Always a popular event, the salon’s annual free tan weekend took on a life of its own this year, says Manager Amy Ringler. “When we first started doing this,” she added, “we gave away tans only on Saturday and Sunday. Now, the event has become so big that we host it from Saturday-Monday to make it accessible to everyone in our community.” In conjunction with the salon’s 12th anniversary celebrations, Team Midas Touch offered many specials, including $12 sign-ups for EFT, $12 VersaPro sunless sessions and $12 BEAUTY ANGEL monthly memberships, as well as a 25-50 percent discount on lotions.
Commercials on four local cable stations helped promote the event, says Midas Touch Owner, Darrell Ringler. “We’ve held this annual event ever since we opened and it just keeps getting bigger and better!” he exclaimed. Being blessed with pleasant weather, Darrell grilled hot dogs all weekend and even hosted a “¼k Fun Run” – a lap around the parking lot – complete with an aid station, medallions for finishers and T-shirts for participants. “Everyone had a great time!” he added.
A family-owned and operated business, Midas Touch owners are fond of saying that staff are “adopted” family members. “This year’s free tan weekend was like a family reunion,” said Amy Ringler. “Many former employees come in, and we also had tanning industry friends Kevin Apgar (Cosmedico Light, Inc.), Lewis Henry (Devoted Creations) and Bobby Wagner (JK-Light) on hand to help. For us, it was like visiting with relatives, and our staff was very excited to meet them.”
Darrell Ringler opened The Midas Touch Golden Tan in April 2002. Today, the Emporia, KS-based business is a Devoted Creations Five-Star Diamond salon with 17 tanning units, and also offers red-light therapy, spray-tans and teeth-whitening. Midas Touch is operated by Amy, Darrell and Lauren Ringler.
