ENGLEWOOD, CO – At the Beach Tanning is known for its 64 tanning superstores, but is also quickly gaining recognition as a strong advocate for non-profit organizations in its four-state region. Most recently, the longtime supporter of charitable causes raised $25,000 for Project Angel Heart through a special tanning coupon. The donation helped fund Project Angel Heart’s new, larger facility.
A non-profit serving the Denver area, Project Angel Heart provides free, nutritious, home-delivered meals to people living with life-threatening illness. Project Angel Heart volunteers work six days per week under the direction of professional chefs to prepare, package and deliver the meals, 70 percent of which are modified to meet recipients’ dietary needs. Now in its 21st year, Project Angel Heart delivered over 427,675 meals to 1,863 people in 2011.
“Project Angel Heart provides healthy food and a much-needed lifeline to so many with serious illnesses,” said Brian Belt, CEO of At the Beach. “At the Beach has been not only a proud financial supporter of the program for several years, but many of our employees also volunteer their time to prepare and deliver meals, so we know firsthand the impact their program has on those in need. We are grateful to all of our tanners for their support of this project, which enables Project Angel Heart to feed more people throughout the Denver area through expanded work space.”
The fundraiser, coordinated by At the Beach Vice President for Corporate Development, Judson Kinkade, included a special coupon offering clients one week of unlimited tanning for $9.95 at any of its salons. For each coupon redeemed, At the Beach donated the same amount to Project Angel Heart. Within a month, the wildly successful fundraiser netted $25,000. Supporting the in-store fundraising efforts was a special blog, At the Beach Cares which is devoted to the company’s charitable efforts on behalf of a wide-range of causes.
“We’re grateful for At the Beach’s support and commitment to our mission,” Project Angel Heart Executive Director, Erin Pulling said. “Their generous support helped us build our new home which provides us the capacity to eventually quadruple the number of people who receive our nutritious, and often life-saving, home-delivered meals.”
Founded in 1987, At the Beach is a regional chain with 64 stores located throughout California, Colorado, Kansas and Oklahoma.
