As we head into busy season each year, I typically update IST readers on how my salon chain is doing up here in MI. In mid-March, tanner traffic at my stores was up, as well as numbers for both product and service sales. Thanks to the economy and a business-friendly Washington D.C., I’m looking forward to one of my best seasons in nearly eight years.

Robust attendance at this year’s regional expos was also a great indicator of our industry’s outlook – the events wrapped up in February with the PC Tan Expo in NJ. We have coverage of the top-notch show hosted by Susan Miller and her team.

In other news, my home state has proposed an Under-18 Tan Ban. It’s bad news for some salons, others won’t feel it much if it passes. Nevertheless, we don’t need more regulation! Since the elections, Michigan has been under Democrat control – their ideology is BIG, intrusive government making choices for you and your family. Michigan salon owners need to contact their Senator and Representative and urge them to defeat House Bill 4205.
