So, what’s the big deal about salon operator training? Some states, such as North Carolina, actually require all salon staff to be certified and all indoor tanning certification programs offered there must be approved by the North Carolina Radiation Control. The Food and Drug Administration maintains that health claims regarding indoor tanning services cannot be made. IST Magazine has taken a firm stance against making health claims in our industry, and the state of North Carolina takes that same stance. No certification programs taken by North Carolina salon operators can promote health benefits of UV tanning.
