Amy Jordan, 31, is a single mother of two children and a staff member at Island Tanz in Crosby, TX. On December 9, 2017, she was seriously injured in a severe head-on car crash. Rescuers needed 45 minutes to cut her out of her vehicle, after which she was life-lifted to a major trauma facility in Houston. Amy underwent over 20 hours of surgery within the first 48 hours after the accident. She was not expected to survive. In addition to many fractures and collapsed lungs, she suffered a torn aorta which required immediate open-heart surgery. Against all odds, Amy fought through complications and was able to return home after 40+ hours of surgery, skin grafts and intensive care.

About a week after the incident, as Amy began waking up, it was discovered that she had suffered a stroke and has since been undergoing rehabilitation to not only regain her physical capabilities, but also her ability to speak clearly. She is expected to be in intensive rehab for at least one year. Her prognosis is good and she should be able to return to her job at Island Tanz following her rehab.

“Every day, Amy asks when she can get back behind the salon counter!” commented David Givens, Island Tanz Owner. “Doctors have said it could take over two years before she has regained the majority of her abilities. However, they’ve made it a point to tell us that she has proven them wrong and already beat all of the odds stacked against her.”

David continues to praise Amy’s character: “When Hurricane Harvey hit Crosby, TX, where she lives, Amy’s house was flooded and her family lost almost everything. She followed what many other Texans did – she went to her church and instantly began volunteering in the shelter and recovery efforts. She was still volunteering in her spare time until the date of her accident. She has a strong faith and is using that to lead her on the rough road that lay ahead of her.”

At David’s request, the tanning industry came together to film “Get Well Soon” videos for Amy to watch on Christmas. And, Team Devoted Creations sent David 100 bottles of Platinum Indulgence lotion to sell and give 100% of the proceeds to Amy and her family for her recovery. The Givens family provided Amy with $1,000 worth of wrapped Christmas gifts for her kids, as well as her very own iPad to help with her stroke recovery.

“Amy has become a representation of what we are as an industry,” Givens concludes. “She has overcome tremendous obstacles, choosing to fight through them and focus her efforts on moving forward.”
