Dear Readers,

As we ramp up for tan biz primetime, I’m happy to report that in January and the first two weeks of February, numbers at my salon chain were up. “How much?” you may ask. In both service and product revenue, the first six weeks of 2019 have been my best since 2014! And the best news is that tanners are up over 9%. I hope the re-invigorated economy has positively affected your bottom line, as well.

I feel that our industry is in “comeback mode.” While it may never be the same as it was in the ‘90s, I believe that the damage done by the previous administration is over, and the current “pro-business” political environment has set the stage for growth in our industry. I talk to our industry leaders and all are feeling positive about the future of the tanning business. Manufacturers are designing and building new and improved equipment, software companies are investing in system upgrades, and lotion companies are reporting early sales gains for 2019. It’s all good news!

More good news as the “Industry Happenings” season wraps up until next fall: great attendance! As I write this, Susan Miller and Team PC Tan is getting ready for their big annual event in NJ – we’ll have coverage in the April issue. Attendees of shows hosted by Heartland Tanning and All Hours Tanning Distributors were offered our Sun is Life® Training and Certification program. Not only are those salon teams now prepared to kill it this season, they’re also eligible to have their business featured in IST Magazine.

Sun is Life will be offered at the National Tanning Expo this fall, but if you’re unable to attend, you can train your team online 24/7/365 – just $99 for your whole staff for a year. The program has just been upgraded with new software and voiceover for all modules. If you’re a salon operator and have not invested in basic certification and training, you should probably re-think your career choice. Get trained with the best … the NEW Sun is Life!

As I mentioned last month, IST Magazine is in the process of joining a newly-formed industry alliance that – for the first time – will offer members of our industry benefits such as owner and employee health care, premises, product and professional liability insurance, and over 35 other valuable benefits. Stay tuned for more details! #gamechanger
