Nearly 300 tanning professionals found the education, training and fun they were looking for at the 2013 New York Tanning Expo.
Hosted by PC Tan, the event’s first day included salon operator certification. Attendees also earned Basic and Master airbrush tanning certifications through Norvell University training presented by Norvell Skin Solutions. The second day featured an open exhibit floor and a keynote presentation titled, “How to Keep Your Customers for Life” by sales guru, Danny Wood. Expo attendees were treated to morning refreshments and an elaborate luncheon, featuring grilled Chicken Breast Yucatan, grilled Basa Mango, Penne Pasta in Vodka Sauce and more.
Discussions between salon professionals and industry experts highlighted PC Tan’s Expo. First was a Panel Discussion that included five industry experts – Thomas D’Auria (Tanlines of East Windsor), Valerie LaVigna (Hollywood Tans), Diane Lucas (Palm Beach Tan), James Oliver (Beach Bum Tanning) and Robbie Segler (Darque Tan). This was followed by a Sunlamp Panel Discussion with Kevin Apgar (Cosmedico Light, Inc.), Lyle Rhodes (Heraeus) and Michael Stepp (Wolff System Technology Corp.). “Both of these sessions are popular at our Expos because the attendees get so much out of them,” said Marie Rodriguez, PC Tan Marketing Coordinator. “From marketing and EFT sales to some highly technical sunlamp data, there were so many great questions asked of both panels, and the panelists did a great job answering them.”
While Thomas D’Auria, owner of Tanlines of East Windsor, participated in the Panel Discussion, he said he also learned a lot at the Expo. “I’ve been attending this event for a few years now and I always pick up something that I can use, whether it’s from the vendors or networking with the other attendees,” he said. “This year, I learned a lot about EFTs from many of my fellow panelists, which I’m excited about putting into practice at my salon. This is definitely a great event and I plan to return next year.”
For Roel Kunst, owner of Portofino Sun Center in New York City, the Expo was a good investment for him and his general manager. “It’s the perfect place for us to get updated on what’s going on in the industry because the event is attended by so many well-informed people,” he said. “The motivational speaker and sales presentations by the vendors were also very good, and I definitely think we’ll improve upon our sales. It was also great to have the chance to meet with so many vendors and actually have the time to talk with them and get to know them. PC Tan always puts on a top-notch event!”
Training and education weren’t the only things on the menu – thousands of dollars’ worth of prizes were awarded to many Expo attendees. The event concluded with a cocktail reception on the exhibit floor.
After two days of Expo excitement, PC Tan Chief Executive Officer Susan Miller was pleased to see so many satisfied attendees. “The PC Tan Annual Expo has traditionally served as the bellwether event of the upcoming tanning season,” said Susan. “We hold it each year just as season begins to ramp up and we’ve been pleased to display the very latest uwe, KBL, and Sportarredo tanning beds, plus the most up-to-date product and sales training, industry certifications, and vital seminars taught by experts in their fields. This year, we were particularly pleased to welcome back our ‘power panel’ of industry leaders from both large and small salon chains, plus the leading manufacturers and suppliers to discuss trends, share best practices and introduce some of the new initiatives being launched to ensure the bright future of our industry. As always, we appreciate the support of all our loyal customers who attended, as well as our industry partners who contribute their time and talent to this event every year.”
