1.How did you get into the tanning industry?
[gap height=”15″]
It started back in the late 70s, when my brother was living in Brazil and invited me down for a vacation. I wanted to prepare my skin for the intense Brazilian sun, so I started tanning at a salon in St. Louis Park, MN that had 20-lamp sunbeds with dumbbells connected to cables to lift and lower the canopy. The salon owner needed some part-time help, so I worked for free tanning while going to college. I then saw the opportunity of the industry and opened a salon in Minneapolis, MN. It so happened that the company I was buying equipment from offered me a job selling SCA Wolff sunbeds, and here I am, 32 years later, selling the best equipment in world – KBL Tanning Equipment.

2.What do you like most about your job?
[gap height=”15″]
I enjoy helping salon owners recreate their business with new, visually exciting tanning systems and recreating a great bottom line for their P&L. Also, every situation is different, so having the ability to be creative with each individual customer makes each day a new adventure.

3.How do you spend your spare time?
[gap height=”15″]
I’m a music lover, so whenever there is an opportunity to find a new venue or new band to listen to, I find my way there. In the summer, my yard is my paradise and I love making sure my paradise is pristine and always inviting for guests. I even bring 14-foot, three-stem palm trees onto my patio in the summer to bring a little of the Caribbean to Northern New Jersey. My neighbors say I should be living in Florida.

4.Do you have any “pet peeves?”
[gap height=”15″]
Dishonesty – be upfront and honest! And, lack of respect for another person’s time. AND, drivers sitting at stop lights holding up traffic while on their phones.

5.What’s your favorite food?
[gap height=”15″]
I’m still a Minnesota, meat and potatoes guy – but substituting real, Minnesota wild rice is always my favorite, even with a great rib eye steak or piece of prime rib.

6.Do you have a favorite TV show?
[gap height=”15″]
That’s a tough one: “Shark Tank,” “The Voice” and without a doubt, anything on HGTV – “Holmes on Homes” is my favorite on HGTV.

7.If we look at your “Bucket List,” what’s at the top?
[gap height=”15″]
A snowmobile trip to Colorado. I grew up riding snowmobiles from the age of five, and since leaving Minnesota in 1997, I haven’t been on one since.
