Why wait for October to start thinking about ways to bring attention to Breast Cancer Awareness Month?
Many salon operators wait until the last minute to engage in efforts to bring awareness to this cause, and even though you may already have a Halloween event planned, it’s important to take extra time to carefully create and execute a Breast Cancer Awareness Month promo before October. Starting to prepare in September will allow you to educate more people while also creating positive exposure for your salon. Here are a few ideas for promotions that help support BCAM for a triumphant October.
It’s important to take extra time to carefully create and execute a Breast Cancer Awareness Month promo before October.
Creating merchandise such as shirts or tank-tops with your salon logo and “Fight for the Cure” slogans are a great way to bring awareness to the cause and your business. The shirts can be made affordably, and when your customers purchase them for $10-$15, all the proceeds go to the fundraiser. You may also intrigue clients with a free packette of their favorite tanning lotion with the shirt purchase, and designate different days of the week or month to wear the shirt and receive a free gift, upgrade session or tanning credit. This makes the customer happy to spend the money and support the cause while providing your salon with amazing community support and inexpensive advertising.
Try tying in your BCAM promo with promoting “all things pink”. There’s definitely, without doubt, no shortage of pink promotional products during this time of the year – whether you sell pink bracelets and donate the proceeds, or give a free upgrade or gift with benefit items, or discount all pink items and donate the discount amount to the cause. Do remember to think outside the box and don’t limit yourself to the same promotions that other salons are doing. The crazier you get, the more buzz you’ll create in your community!
Hosting an after-hours “Girl’s Night Out” event is a great way to align your salon with the Breast Cancer Awareness movement and create an unforgettable sale. As I mentioned last year, this event should be geared toward female clientele, and include guest speakers and nurses to educate your tanners about breast cancer awareness and how to perform self-exams. Encourage your customers to invite their friends, coworkers and family members. In addition to offering a life-changing experience, this is also a great way to get other businesses involved in an alliance to help support and growth in the community.
If you’re planning to triumph in the “Fight for the Cure”, be sure to submit press releases about your salon’s efforts, and include a sincere “thank you” to everyone who participated. In addition, provide your clients with info and tips on breast self-exams, such as pamphlets and flyers in the tanning rooms and restrooms, or a self-exam printout with early detection info. You could also provide clients with monthly self-exam reminders printed on salon receipts and coupons.
It’s a great way to show your customers and your community that you truly care!
